A Bit of a problem for a newbe

Sorry just relised i should have posted here rather than newbe joins

so here we go

It's a 1996 WRX waggon in great condition

My god these things shift and the noise of the flat 4 is just Great

I am totaly converted I love it

1 problem looks like it may have developed an oil leak that must be dripping on to the exhaust when i stoped after the 100 mile trip to pick it up i got a big plume of smoke coming from under the bonet smelt like oil/burning underseal

any ideas where to look? seems a bit oiley down the left hand side head (as you look at it under the bonet) so may just be rocker cover gaskit?

Cheers

If you've just picked it up i would say it's more likely that the oil has been changed/topped up and they've spilt some that is burning when the engine/manifold etc is hot. I had this with my wagon when i picked it up. A load of smoke from the engine for the first few days, then cleared up.

I'd suggest keeping an eye on the levels for a few days and see if the burning oil goes away by itself. If not then get it looked at.

mmm, sounds very much like a rocker gasket on the turbo side is on the way out, not a mega problem as log as its sorted before the problem gets worse, but should be covered by warrenty i'd have thought.

as you guess its the gasket leaking and dripping on to the hot down pipe.

never tried it myself, but from what i gather pain in the arse, you have to disassemble that side of the engine bay to get at it

Thumbs up Its all done!

Hi All

managed to do the naughty rocker cover gaskit's today

Not a problem at all tock about an hour each side

Had to strip out the air box and bits to get to the left hand one but its all done now and seems ok with a lot less smoke out of the engine bay so fingers crossed

Many thanks for all your help its a real cool forum

I have a load of other questions so i best start a new one

Cheers
Derek
