How Can I Get My Impreza To Make That Deep Sound?

ive got a 96 impreza sti, its got a scorpion exhaust from the cat back with a 3.5 inch backbox but it is quite quiet. Does any 1 know whether i would get that deep sound if i just changed the backbox to a tuner or if i would need a new system?

welcome to the site, a lot depends on the amount of stuffing in the backbox, replacement of the box would mke a difference, magnex sound nice afterburner vortex very loud, ninja, not so loud to name a couple.
Removing the rear cat would help, whilst still making it mot friendly.

As Buzz says - welcome to the site.

As for which back box to go for - how longs a piece of string

Seriously though it really depends on what you want from the system - loud - very loud - large diameter - etc etc

The Magnex gear is rather good quality if you like the 'sleeper' status of a 3.5" rolled tip exhaust. If you want something a bit louder then the original Hayward & Scott Scoobysport Exhaust is excellent. I had this on mine (before i reverted it to standard) and it sounded superb.

Otherwise if you want a bit more noise and big jap style then the Ninja is a good buy or if you like loud and Large then HKS, Blitz, TSL Firestorm, Afterburner Vortex is what you should be looking at. 8)

Best thing is to go to some meets and have a listen to a few first, get an idea and talk to people.

Can be an expensive mistake otherwise.

The scoobyworld site has some down loadeable clips of the ninja and afterburner

Not many exhaust I have not had. I personally like the HKS Hiper its loud enough and comes with a bung to quiet things down when you want to get on track. The Blitz was nice but after a bit the noise can become to much to live with and I could not get on track with this exhaust. Scoobysports is the classic but even that gave over 100 dec and no trackwork with that. I am talking catless here. with cats it all quietens down. My Magnex system went in the bin did not like that at all. I now am running with a HKS Quiet type exhaust only 97 dec and ok for trackwork. Quietish on tickover leading up to 97 dec at about 4000 rpm. I think I would like to go back to the HKS hiper though.
