Petrol Thoughts

Hi,

I have a 2004 Subaru Impreza GX and i was wondering what is the best fuel to use in the car.

In Australia we have:
Regular unleaded which is 91 RON
Preimum Unleaded which is 95 RON
Super Premium Unleaded which is 98 RON

I use 95 Ron pertol in my car, and i have been told different stories. I have been told that i should just use regular because it will make no difference to the car, and i have been told that the car can adjust itself to make use of the increased petrol quality.

Also, is it easy to tune a car to run on Super Premium if i wanted to

Cheers

The higher the octane rating the better for any car it will also lessen the chance of destructive detonation, as if you run 98ron it is less tolerant to detonation so the higher the ron the better you will not wreck the engine in any way but it might run a bit rich but thats ok, prefer it to run to rich than to lean

Re: Petrol Thoughts

The octane rating will not have any effect on how rich or lean it runs. It is all petrol and has the same stoich value.

Re: Petrol Thoughts

For a none turbo impreza use the 95 RON preimum unleaded not the regular unleaded.

As Darren said " The higher the octane rating the better for any car"

Re: Petrol Thoughts

Jumping ahead of myself their Duncan must be thinking of christmas dinner to much lol sure any fuel rating can be leaned out by to much air causing it to run lean or a failing pump and so on loads of other ways to

Re: Petrol Thoughts

With it being a newage and a Denso ECU I cant see you doing any damage but your just not getting the best out of the engine, the super unleaded over here on NA cars does still work/help, you may not get massive bhp gains but the cars do run smoother and seem to be more responsive.
