U Joint problem

Just gone over the car ready for it's Jap MOT and everything is fine except there seems to be a fair amount of oil around the universal joint, so I'm guessing a seal is on it's way out. There is no knocking or any other problem that has thus far alerted me to any issues.

Anybody had this problem and if so what kind of costs/work was involved? I'm guessing it's gonna mean a replacement driveshaft.

Some pics;

Hi Wayne.

Is it leaking where the drive shaft goes into the diff if so it looks like the diff oil seal.

Re: U Joint problem

I would give it a good clean with gunk de-greasing fluid then have another look at it before you take any action.

That's what I'm hoping to do. Most of the test is computerised done by me believe it or not, but the underside is checked by a govt fella. It just depends on how busy they are and how closely they inspect the bottom of my car.

Re: U Joint problem

i would suggest a clean off ive had similar misting of oil and when it was cleaned off it did not reappear to such an extent with the warm summer you experience the fluid obviously goes thin and weeps around that area then all the crap off the road sticks to it and makes it look worse get the same around the rear diff allways worse in warmer weather usally after a good clean it does not reappear for months
