BOV/ Dump valve, point being?

Can somebody PLEASE tell me if there is ANY point in fitting a "whiz-pfft-shhhh" valvet o my turbo or not?
Is there any performance change or is it a "look at meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" addition, a bit like completely de-catted exhaust systems and the ilk!?
Im toying with the idea, however the general gen im getting is that it does jack-shit, other than making you look like an attention seeking shit-bag!

IMHO .. No.

Unless you are considering an aftermarket BOV solely for the purposes of holding higher boost levels the OEM BOV is perfectly fine up to 20psi of boost.

a decat exhaust and remap is definatley not for looks I would think it is the starting point of all performance tuning mods

Agreed. De-cat is a very worthwhile modification and one of the first things most people do when modding their cars.

Re: BOV/ Dump valve, point being?

Externally venting BOV's are promoted as a faster release of pressure to prevent compressor surge. Can't say if it makes any difference but I've got one on my car, along with my de-cat exhaust ! !
Yes it is a "look at me" but isn't that one of the pleasures of owning and driving an Impreza ?
I love to hear the roar and rumble from the boxer engine and I smile insatiably when driving through tunnels with the window down.

totally agree mate if you dont want people to look then buy a mondeo.

Before I put a blitz nur just as many people starred as they do now and apart from the exhaust it looks standard

Re: BOV/ Dump valve, point being?

Woah, bit of incoming there!
No offence meant, and i love the sound of the boxer engine too, however, i feel theres taking it a LITTLE too far.
I have an aftermarket exhaust system and that sounds sweet (neighbours dont think so, especially at 06:00 every morning!)
I just get a bit threaders with the stigma attached with being an Impreza driver.

Re: BOV/ Dump valve, point being?

OE dump valve is the best option - no performance gains whatsoever from an aftermarket one - in fact they are the most common cause of running issues.

Morning fella, did ya duck that one
It's each to their own I think, I've got a Bailey BOV and it's been on the car for a few years without any problems. On the other hand I hate Imprezas with gold wheels, just my opinion.
My exhaust note is a little quieter now since I had a Cat welded in to the system for the MOT, there's only so many times you can blag an MOT with a 3" straight through !
I still manage to annoy a few people when it's warming up and cooling down though but the car is rarely used so not too bad.Hasn't moved for about 5 weeks now.
