Unhappy Knocking from the rear

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on the knocking sound coming from the rear of my car. I have already changed the drop link for whiteline ones and I've changed the bushes on the ends of the arms.

Its quite a deep sounding clonk when i hit holes in the road whick makes me think its the shocks that have gone? I have had a look at the shocks and they seem fine, no leaks or anything.

Is there an easier way to check them before replacing them and I still have a problem?

Thank you, Claire

Jack the rear of the car up and try working the wheel up & down see if u can feel/hear anything, if there is no resistance then they are knackered.

This happened in my Sti Version 6 clonking noise changed the rear anti roll bar bushes and the links and problem never came back uprated them since to Whiteline well happy but as Matt said above and also when the car on the ground open the boot press down in that corner where you getting the clonk if the suspension comes back up with little resistance should be ok but if the suspension does not come back up and bogs down problem with a shock then and dont rule out the Top Mounts...............

Also check your jack. Sounds daft but had a knocking sound on mine when I first got it, was advised to check jack. Stuffed a couple of old MF towels in with the jack and problem solved.

Re: Knocking from the rear

Thanks everyone, I took her to a garage today and they told me as I expected that the rear shocks are knackered.

Now that I have to replace these ones before I've managed to save for a full set up of shocks and springs, what ones shall I get?

Re: Knocking from the rear

what is ur typical roads that you drive on and what do you want from the setup,
do you want it on rails but you may loose some comfort, is all your travelling on B roads?
Do you do any track days etc?
all helps point you in the right direction of springs/shocks or coilovers etc.

Re: Knocking from the rear

I would like it lowered ready for when I buy my new wheels but I dont really want it to be rock hard on the road either. I sure dont want to feel every bump in the road. So the lowering is for looks mostly, but I know lowering and comfort dont really come together.

I dont do any track days or rallying.

HI Claire,if your going to lower the car,try looking to some G-Max or PI springs,i know both makes are a smooth ride..
