Re: newbie with gearbox problem

Not a good idea to fit that,as the numbers are differant, there is a good possibility that the replacement box will "winde up" the rear dif n blow it to bits!!..

give these guys a shout.. :- Untitled

Worth giving API a ring only ever heard good reports about them though 4 or 5 yr ago got my existing box sorted at zen performance been fine since.

API Engines

ZEN Performance - Performance upgrade solutions for Japanese cars - Subaru & Mitsubishi Specialists

Pretty sure either of them would help ya out.

Re: newbie with gearbox problem

thanks for advice. we have found a secondhand box with the right type No. person we bought it off advised us. beacuse of the amount of enging mod's there is too much power going through the box. which is causeing the diff to break up. any oppinions on this?

Re: newbie with gearbox problem

the person who said about weak diff is talking bollox mate, unless my info is wrong the diffs are good for 600bhp (i was on about them in mine and was advised not needed). its the main gearset that isn't. At about 350ish bhp/ftlb they tend to give up on all the 5 speed box's, uk turbo's, wrx's and sti's.

only options after that are 6 speeders or a built 5/6 speed ppg gearset (or similar)

I thought the diff to was very strong and caple of a lot of bhp got into a conversation with a rally driver awhile back came into the garage as knows my buddy and got talking about the boxes and driveshafts in imprezas and all that hes running 380bhp but he does have the propshaft and driveshafts uprated with a 6speed box in his classic with a standard diff and he hard on the car and he never had a problem with diff he proberbly didnt even need the propshaft and drives uprated but he did he a right car freak lol how much bhp would you need to consider changing prop and drives????

Re: newbie with gearbox problem

TY754VN4AA is a V.8 gearbox whereas the VN754VN1AA belongs to a V6 if i'm not mistaken. There will be differences in diff ratios and possibly the size of the flywheel so you would need the rear diff and front driveshafts off whichever box you're swapping with although physically they will both bolt onto the engine no probs, and the right size flywheel and starter motor.

Your other option is the box off a bugeye as it has the same female driveshaft ends as the V.6box, but again i think diff ratios will be different so you'll need at least the diff and flywheel/starter motor as well.
