new member desperate for help

hi im a new member saying high and asking for help, my car has died

i was driving today when the engine check light came on the car still drove ok apart from the fcd coming in at 4500rpm as usual when the lightis on. I drove about a mile then stopped the engine i tried to restart it about 5 minutes later and it struggled to start, when it eventually did it kept cutting out.

with revs held on i can keep the engine running but only just its missing and back firing all over the place.

the engine check lamp is not on now ive tried to read the codes but it just gives a constant 0.5 of a second flash indicating there is no faults.

it feels like fuel starvation but ive had the pipe from the filter of and there is plenty of fuel there and seems to have a decent pressure.

when the engine is running and the throttle is pressed there is a loud clicking/ cracking noise coming from the throttle body area

any advice or helpfull hints welcome

by the way its a 97 sti

just realised i have posted this in the wrong section. sorry about that

Cam/crank sensors are very common faults, the FCD wont be kicking in at 4000 rpm thats limp mode,
Where are you located?

Re: new member desperate for help

im in sunderland.

even though the light isnt on now and its not showing any faults there is no turbo action.

i have checked all the pipes, no signs of any splits. there seems to be plenty of fuel to the rails. but it just wont run.

when staring it goes to about 1000rpm after a few seconds it goes up to 1400rpm for a few seconds then starts to missfire the revs drop right down until its hardly running sometimes it runs at a few hundred rpm for about 30seconds othertimes it just cuts straight out

coil pack was one thought it is sparking and quite a strong spark at that but i dont know if it arcing out inside and firing all the plugs at once or something along those lines
