Gearbox\Driveshaft

had a refurbed box fitted to my car last month by a Local subaru specialist! he said he had a bit of bother with the linkage when fitting it anyway i got the car back the gearstick was flopping about.

I started car up and put it into first and as i pulled away there was a grinding noise in first gear. and it was bloody loud. dipped the clutch and the noise remained just as loud. changed ino second and there was a rubbing noise then the grinding noise dissapeared. turned round and took it to the garage and he had a listen and told me my first gear on the new box must be knackered. anyway i couldn't afford to have it removed again so i have had to persevere for the last month with this bloody loud niose in first gear.

I was driving the car yesterday and the gear stick has now went completely loose and bangs of either side of the gaiter. I jacked the car up and had a look underneath and there was no locating spring (was never fitted after box was put in i reckon) anyway is it possible that becasue he had to fiddle with the linkage, the bloody bushing is rubbing of the drive shaft and causing the grinding noise?

any advice would be great

Thanks guys

Have a look at this here where red arrows are had to replace my bushes cause lever was very sloppy and also if that mechanic didnt fit that gearchange rod right it can add extra force to selector forks in box causing synchros not to mesh right causing your crunch

my00 classic turbo wagon mate, the only thing that makes me think it is on the wrong way round is that when you look up from underneath, you can see where the locating spring should clip on to, next to the bush on the stay complete gear shift. I can see a little hole for what looks like the other side of the spring to conect to on the universal joint but there is no way the spring will connect as the hole for the spring is on the universal joint is facing up into the car. im assuming the little eyelet for the spring on the universal joint should be facing down toward the ground?
