Re: Brake Test

Was talking to a subaru mechanic awhile back and got chatting to a Rally driver as he was popping in for some gear and was telling me that if you run the Brake Pads without any backing plate or shim you can get up to 20%-25% better braking cause the backing plates and shim trap the heat to the pad without dispersing it and can inflict brake fade but this is only when you want to drive the car on a bit hard. Cause if they were no backing plate and shim the heat from the pads can escape faster so tried it in mine and well impressed with the results they do Squel a bit but you think your Richard Burns coming into a bend and brakes squeling if you think about it ever wonder why most rally cars brakes squel thats a big factor, but if you can put up with the squel you be surprised Always get your Brakes fitted by an Experienced Mechanic

Re: Brake Test

i have the shims removed on my car,, but they squel like little piggy's. This plus the Carbotech pads means that any soft braking equals loud squelling, so it does turn some heads around town and when manouvering but i quite like it Hard braking - much less noise if any when warmed up

It's a bit of an 'old skool' thing to do, .... or so Nobby tells me
