Fault code reading

My friendly local neighbourhood grease monkey told me that his diagnostic machince wouldn't be able to read the fault codes on my 93 MRX import and that I need to take it to Subaru (who will charge significantly more - 50) to get it diagnosed. Once I get the fault code he will be able to sort my "check engine" problem.

Is this true?

Re: Fault code reading

Good news! Mate came over last night and we managed to get the fault codes to flash. I looked it up online and confirmed what we originally thought - it was linked to the broken speedometer. Luckily I had ordered a replacement one off ebay so we fitted that and now it works absolutely fine. I'm really chuffed because this problem has been going on for a good few weeks now and has really been doing my head in.

Luckily now I can cancel my appointment with the Subaru technician who was going to charge me 50 to tell me something I already knew! New speedo don't half look flash too Happy days
