diff noise

please help :shock: a friend of mine has a 99 impreza sport...garage has said rear diff is gone...wants 1500 to fix. is this about right,and how can u tell, thanks mike

Cant comment on the price.
first thing I would do is drop the oil from it and see what else comes out :shock: Refill and drive it again.
seems a bit young for the diff to be shot, unless the oil has been low.

Try "Grade A" breakers for a second hand diff, dont know the number but someone will

As Buzz has said drop the oil and see what comes out then refill with Syntrax

No way should a differential gear fail at this age unless damage has occured with an oil loss through serious abuse.... how reputable is the garage who diagnosed the fault. Drain and refill, see what you get, less than an hours labour to do it..... and a second hand diff is the way to go if the diff is crocked... not that hard to fit and save a small fortune :shock:
