Wink subaru impreza wagon clutch?

hi all.

i have a subaru wagon turbo year 97 r plate. it suffers from the normal clutch judder upon hot or cold from the clutch, you have to give it more welly to avoid it upon starting off, i have heard its due to the flywheel needs skimming or clutch plate or clutch, anyone know?mite as well change whole lot while car is apart!
i was going to do a clutch etc change this coming weekend, can anyone advise on how bigger of a job this entails, or is it ok to do yourself?

thanks alot

Re: subaru impreza wagon clutch?

hi.
thanks for your reply.

i only have a set of car ramps as would do this job on my driveway.
is this a overhead job or under car job or bit of both?

thanks.

also when you replace the clutch and flywheel, any adjustments to make or is it just replace part for part and refit together? drain gearbox oil to do a clutch?
thanks again

Re: subaru impreza wagon clutch?

its an underneath job(mainly) mate, need to drop prop, driveshafts, and exhaust to gain easy access to the bell housing, also need
to pop out the starter...

just replace like for like,no need to drain box out unless you want to add fresh oil

personally i'd never attempt a clutch change on a driveway or in my home garage..

Question Re: subaru impreza wagon clutch?

hi m8.

when drive from cold and hot when i pull away i get a judder feeling from standing start, so does this mean its the clutch or been advised its the flywheel warped? as these subarus dont have clutch slip they just judder if there is a problem is this correct? so do i need a co mplete clutch kit or just a flywheel? as may need skimming? is the flywheel within the kit of the clutch or do i just replace the whole lot? totally confused now! flywheel problem/clutch or?

many thnaks.

Re: subaru impreza wagon clutch?

the scoob clutch will quite happily slip, judder is in a way a normalish thing,in theory a bit of clutch slipping,or side stepping the pedal can reduce this.. unlikely the fly has warped unless its have a very very hard previous life of constant thrashing etc...

if you want to replace the clutch then do so,some clutch suppliers won't warrant the clutch unless a new fly has been fitted,as for skimming (personal choice) i wouldn't...

fly and clutch are sold seperately...

rough guide to prices :- Subaru Impreza Turbo Parts, Tuning, Spares & Accessories :: 2.0i Turbo GC8/GF8 94 TO 00 UK - Clutch/Gearbox Parts ::

Re: subaru impreza wagon clutch?

thanks for that.
so in your oppinion do you think its the flywheel that needs replacement or the clutch as this judder drives me mad, even a slow pull away it does it ,do you still have to take clutch out to get at flywheel then? if so might as well do the lot or not?

thanks.

Re: subaru impreza wagon clutch?

try doing a few high reving launches and see what happens,if the clutch starts to slip like mad then its had it!!..,i'd say its the clutch, but as i said try a few high rev launches as this action can resolve or reduce it

yup the clutch has to be removed to reach the fly...
