Cambelt change-why is nothing straight fwd lol

So bought a dayco cambelt kit(includes tensioner/1 toothed idler 2 plain idlers and a sml idler),even bought front crank seal and new bolt thought we`ll do it proper..........................didnt even get the old one off.

First of all the nuts in the rear half of the cambelt cover had rusted to the bolts so the first bolt we tried to undo spun in the cover(starts to think this could be interesting)especially as theyre moulded into the plastic-all in all i`d say half of the nuts in the cambelt cover side pieces have spun in the plastic backplate of the cover-great so im already pissed off though we have got em out with the nut still attached to bolt.

Adam (one of me mechanic mates)were gonna use a impact gun to undo crank pulley bolt however its a fact ya cant get one in(even though we`d took rad out)centre support to frontpanel from crossmembers in the way.

so put it bk together an came home to see what the score is with it on the net.

A few mates and a few ppl on net have suggested undoing it whilst cars in gear with handbrake on others on the starter with bar against chassis/ground,apparently theres a rubber bung in bell housing where ya can get to jam flywheel-which is about favourite up to yet but ive not looked.

Waiting to see if another mate who works at subaru can borrow me a proper crankpulley locking tool, really didnt expect to have had this much pissing about at this stage though having not yet disturbed anything is it a sign pmsl

Regarding the nuts that spun just spun the lot till it melted the plastic in front of em whilst pulling at the cover-just means sorting some longer bolts drilling the hole out in bk half of cover an putting a washer on the bk of the cover then nut so ya can get at both ends of the bolt-think theres just one i cant get at like this so will just put a bolt in with nut up to bk of front cover to blank it unless ive got a grommet kicking about the right size.

Subaru`s special tool is basically a ring with 4pins in that fits into them sml holes with socket drive attachment.

Well seeing as pete were a much use as a 1 legged man in a arse kicking contest ive had to bite the bullet an buy a crankpulley wrench(yes its your fault pete)

Thanks and apologies to bugeye bob(brett)who dont live far from me(been mates for yrs) who ordered it after sorting through several superceded part no`s to get the right wrench even before ringin subaru.

The plan were to buy one between us to use on both cars(though at this stage i`d not seen bretts crankpulley on his jdm bug sti)anyway picked it up earlier and it fits mine but errrrr not bretts so im now 98 down-gutted but on the plus side can now do the job.

In a nice presentation case with-

" congratulations from subaru we`ve just shafted you right an proper but still youre keeping us in business because we aint selling any cars thankyou on behalf of fuji heavy industries."

Maybe thats the way forward-have a special tool for everything an make a fortune on the tools rather than the cars.

98! Stop moaning dave. Tis a nice looking crank pulley wrench.

Brett can use the timing belt change tip and save 260.
