Transmission Noise

My W reg Imprea 2000 Turbo I have just bought has a really annoying transmission wine from the gearbox, even more apparent when reversing. Its not that loud, but very noticeable and annoying unless I put music on.

Is this a common problem?

Does anyone think an oil change for some transmission oil that claims to reduce noise would work? If so which brand and grade would you suggest.

Thanks

Re: Transmission Noise

All the time really, more noticeable probably when lifting off. Im thinking something is warn as its probably louder than acceptable from factory.

Just wondered If there is a solution and knowledge of possible cause?

Cant afford to have the box reconned or anything so would have to be leave it till it brakes sort of scenario.

Thanks

Re: Transmission Noise

First thing would be to have the gearbox oil level checked and possibly changed. If you replace the oil use a decent gearbox oil such as Motul Gear 75W 90. I use it in mine and have no complaints at all. Tbh, my gearbox is pretty whiney so wouldn't be unduly concerned but worth getting it checked if you are worried.

Aside from the whine, any other issues with the box at all?

Re: Transmission Noise

Nope I dont think theres much wrong for that reason as far as the box goes it functions perfectly and goes into gear nice and smooth. Its just the whining thats annoying. I get enough of it from the girlfriend when shes in the car I dont need 2 of them at it hehe
