Question juddering/hesitating???

Hi all, got a problem with my impreza juddering/hesitating when under heavy acceleration. When driving normally there is no problem. It seems to be when it is at the higher end of the rev range. Any ideas of what it may be causing the problem would be greatfully received.

Cheers richard

Re: juddering/hesitating???

There are tonnes of things it could be unfortunately. Someone (with more knowledge than me) should write a sticky for the "judder/hesitation/jerking" under boost.

Here are the general ones which can be done without costing you, which is the best way to start. check it after each step (obviously allowing for cooling etc) so you know what was causing the problem. Obviously check the manual fault codes before any of the following, there is a guide on here somewhere...

Otherwise....

1) Clean the MAF sensor with electrical cleaner in a can
2) Check the plugs & gapping
3) Check the coil packs for cracks in the plastic casing
4) Spray carb/brake/electrical cleaner through the boost solenoid while its clicking in diagnostic mode.
5) Check all the tubing on the boost solenoid and intercooler is sound and unperished and connected properly
6) Check the restrictive pill in the bottom hose on the boost solenoid is in place and not blocked (carb cleaner through it clears gunk well)

If not any of these then it could be a damaged MAF / Lambda sensor which may or may not tell on the fault codes.

I had this juddering and a combo of cleaning MAF and boost solenoid and piping did the trick.

Good luck let us know how you get on!

Tom

Re: juddering/hesitating???

Hi, I have a very similar juddering problem to my Impreza Wagon GL 2000,

I work away from home and my car has been sitting on the drive a lot recently. I'm now home for a while but driving my car is hard work. It will randomly start juddering for the duration of a journey once I hit 50, but not every time... It has been doing it since it's last service, but this is the first chance I've had to look at it.

I have replaced Spark Plugs, HT leads, checked fittings on the air box system... I'm not particularly knowledgeable about cars, but I all these should now be fine.

Could anybody suggest ways of trying to repair this, in laymans terms
