Passenger Wheel knock, ting, metalic rattle
Hi All (MY98 UK Turbo)
I have an really annoying noise when i have the passenger window open. It only seems to happen on bumps, but i just heard it when turning right on a long swooping corner with bushes either side. It almost sounds like the exhaust is knocking on something. I have taken to the garage 3 times in the last month but they have been unbale to locate the noise. Its not the exhaust, there is no play in the passenger wheel bearing, the CV boots are intact and all seems good from underneath. The heatshields are all good, apart from the uppipe one rattles slightly at low RPM, but thats driver side so we dont think its that. Any ideas what this could be? We have checked literaly everything. We removed the undertray to the engine but this made no differance to the volume of the noise. You cannot hear it with the window up. It defo sounds like its coming from the front wheel. The brakes are all good with all clips intact. The noise is like something metal is clicking out of place, then instantly clicking back in. HELP -- I hate unusual noises! |

WOW that was a very quick response, thank you!
Yes all bushes checked, Spring/shock checked and all is good. I read someone on another thread said a simalar noise was caused by a worn hub sleve slipping round the bearing. How can you check this?> |

ok,so its not grooved/slotted/drilled or countersunk discs causing the sounds, have you check the strut tops?
also bumpers can make odd noises, mine has recently devloped a squeek ![]()

Re: Passenger Wheel knock, ting, metalic rattle
nope they are solid disks. We thought i may be the front bumper so we have filled every little gap with foam pads. And surprise suprise it has made absolutely no differance.
I dont remember him checking the strut tops, how is this done? (Would have thought they would make a noise in the cabbin mind). I think im flogging a dead horse here! Me and the subaru mechanic spent 2 hours under her yesterday. |

Re: Passenger Wheel knock, ting, metalic rattle
make sure the 3 nuts on top are tight and the pop the little black cap off in the centre of the strut,17mm nut iirc, see what the state of play is and tighten accordingly,(provided its stil on standard shockers)lol

Re: Passenger Wheel knock, ting, metalic rattle
ARB bushes? Drop Links or could well be Top Mounts - sounds similar to a problem I had with my old Evo, that turned out to be a fooked top mount. Made a right ole racket and got progressively worse!!
