Suspension restored, bushes and shocks

In the spirit of sharing I wanted to report the changes I have just made to my suspension, after some research, and the results in the hope that it might help someone.

My 97 UK turbo wagon had done 80,000 mostly motorway miles, and whilst body and drive train were in great shape (no surprise) the handling was a bit off, lots of under and over steer at (relatively) low speeds.

Not interested in having a race car suspension, I elected to 'restore' my suspension with powerflex bushes and drop links all round and new kyb shocks.

The experience: I'm not a mechanic but 2 days later I had finished to job, thanks goodness I had a breaker bar, spring compressors and a hacksaw, no specialist kit required.

The result: a much better handing car, I have to go much faster to get the car to understeer and over steer off the throttle is very gentle. I have to say that the ride in a straight line is much the same as before. Certainly no more noise and unfortunately just as 'uncertain' over the harsh bumps as before.

Next job is to get the alignment sorted as the steering wheel is 5 degrees out so it must need doing.

A question for you experts out there - what should the ride through town be like? Imagine a comfort continuum between a cateram 7 and a vectra, where would the Sube be? If a Vectra is 10 and a Cateram 7 is 1, then I think my Wagon is about 3 (with standard tyre pressures) - is that right?

Thanks for reading.
