power stearing squeal

as the title suggests, my 94 turbo wagon has started to squeal now and then when turning into a junction or going round a roundabout yet it dont do it when i'm stopped and put it on full lock whether it is turned left or right, do you guys think it could be the power steering pump or just a case of a slipping belt?
Thanks Rich.

Re: power stearing squeal

Mine makes a funny squeaking noise when turning at low speeds. Subaru didn't have a clue and since the pump etc. were all in perfect working order just decided to keep an eye on it and fluid levels.

Assume you have checked steering fluid levels? If not check that first. As for the pump, they fail very rarely on Impreza's so it is unlikely to be that. Might also be worth changing the power steering fluid if it hasn't been done for a while.

Re: power stearing squeal

Could be a bit of air in the system guys my top hose off the reservoir the hose clip was a bit loose and air got into system causing it to squeal renewed the hose clip made sure the fluid up to max then bleed air in system by letting engine run for a fast idle 2000rpm for a fast 5mins then let it idle and turn steering wheel to full lock either side try not to hit stops till noise goes away should be 2mins or less and job done could be belt to just tighten it or renew if rubber cracked then should be perfect
