Exclamation My impreza is whining, help!

Hi guys, only me again!

Someone noticed a leak from my car the other day so I had a look but I can't tell where this leak is coming from?
its dripping under where the radiator sits behind the front bumper just inside of the passanger fog light but its dripping not directly from the radiator but the metal under it!
I drove home sensibly until she reached good temperature then gave it a little boot full and then she started to whine! I pulled over to have a look and this fluid looked like it had spat at everything near the rad where the fan was, on the large hose to the rad and even some on the exhaust which was smoking a little due to heat.

Now I turn her on and when cold she whines really bad (but goes quieter after a while) and when you turn the steering it gets worse! my steering has gone heavy and noisy and a bit shaky.
the liquid was near on see through with a bit of dirt but wasnt water. im sure its a leak from the power steering. could it be the wrong fluid used in the steering or has the power steering pump gone? I can see liquid in the pump but i dont no if its low? I have a recording from cold i'll post in a sec.

Re: My impreza is whining, help!

Definitely sounds from your description like you have been losing power steering fluid.
Could just be that the pump is trying to pump fluid that isn't there and is whining. Mine had run low on fluid a couple of weeks ago so got it looked at and found a small leak. Was a slight whining that alerted me. Doubt your pump has gone tbh, but will only be a matter of time if you don't get the leak and the fluid levels sorted sorted

1 thing to check if you fit new pump make sure you get the power steering belt at the right tension as to tight will cause the steering to have the prob of tight ,juder and noisey if so loosen it a bit i changed pump and rack it was belt to tight lol
