Smile First timer needs help, poss clutch prob.

Hi there, first post and already looking for help!

Impreza 2000 '94.

Came off the motorway earlier after a 10 min trip, and i noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine bay ( knocking increased with revs).

Also, the clutch pedal was juddering at the same time which was a bit worrying, it seemed to go into gear ok though.

After a two hour period the problem was still there but i had to drive home... after the 10 min motorway drive the problem was no longer there.

Any ideas?

Ta.

hmmm, could be a lose mount bud, there is one at the top of the engine, under the intercooler(basically a steady bar)they work lose and will shake the hell out of the car, mine did it a few months back, try nipping up the bolts on there n try again n see what happens, failing that check the down pipe hanger bracket as at times they can shear n vibrate down the tunnel

Ok cheers.

It didnt really sound like something vibrating, it was quite a noticeable knocking sound - together with the clutch pedal 'knocking'

Any other ideas greaty appreciated.

could be the flywheel braking up,but thats a worse case cenario...

best bet is get it up on ramps n see if there's anything noticable on the underside..

Hello Pal, your probably looking at around 150 for a blueprint one but id go for a racing heavy duty clutch. did the sound stop when stood still on idle and having the clutch pedal all the way down?

Re: First timer needs help, poss clutch prob.

your problem sounds like the fly wheel is loose i think there are 6 bolts at 14mm in size holding it on. you can see it if you get under the car and remove the alloy tin plate wich is held on with 2 x 10mm bolts after removing the cover plate you should be able to get your hand in to see if there is any play or inspect with a torch.
TIP: MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS OFF WHEN YOU PUT YOUR HAND IN THE GAP OR YOU WILL END UP LIKE ME UNCLE PHIL WITH OUT THE WAR SENARIO BUT WITH THE GAP BETWEEN HIS THUMB AND HIS LITTLE PINKY.

150 doesnt sound too bad, what could i expect to pay in labour?

TUNER, I cant remember if the sound stopped with the clutch pressed, i was too concerned with possibly breaking down on the m61!

Do you all reckon its time for a new clutch? Would i have to replace the flywheel also?

Cheers.

Re: First timer needs help, poss clutch prob.

no worries oh by the way its 8 x 14mm bolts that hold down the fly wheel and while your there you might as well put a lighter fly wheel in and save your self some fuel and go quicker. new clutch is a good idea whilst your cars apart check the wear on the existing though.exedy "organic" not caged!!
i love fish!
