Clutch judder :/

Hi guys,

I have an Impreza turbo 2000 (X reg) and the clutch does alot of juddering when its been left overnight, or gets very warm, is this a common fault on scobbys of the type/age its done about 50K miles ?

Also when I spoke to Subaru they asked me what year my car was, which I said 00 as its X reg, they said it could be 00 or 01, without sounding dumb here, how do I know the manufactured date ?

Thanks in advance.

MY01 is a Bug Eye
MY00 is a Classic

Had clutch and flywheel replaced with upgraded parts under warrenty because of clutch judder

Spooky I do get clutch judder on mine from time to time and mine is a MY00 Classic. All I do when the car is cold (this is when it happens) is just give it more revs as I pull away. Now whenever I drive the car from cold I just hold the rpm at about 1K-1.5K rpm and feather the clutch in - works a treat

Sp00ky, nothing to worry about m8... its a known bug on the cars... A shed load of scoob drivers all see the same thing

My 99 did exactly the same thing...

Me too, my99

fine once warmed up though and not every morning, as said, feed in the clutch.

some people say that treating your car to a couple of standing start drags, launching at 3-4k RPM cleans all the crap off the clutch plate and will stop the judder for a few thousand miles. obviously, only do this when warmed up

lots of people have written about it on scoobynet in the past. dealers did replace clutches if the car was within warrenty. other option is to get an aftermarket uprated clutch

My 2002 WRX Wagon (77,000+ mi, Subaru's extended warr. apparently won't cover it) also does the 'cold starrt shudder' - I've talked to Dealer Service about it - naturally they would like us to fry our plates to smooth it out (My 1992 Turbo Legacy has 'original' clutch at over 250,000 Miles, although it's getting the pedal close to the floor).

Burning the clutch weekly is sure to shorten it's life, I'm trying to live with the shudder - and reminding dealer service (and Sales - it is my 6th New Subaru - I am expecting Quality, not evasiveness) about monthly (I keep hearing that they're "Talking to the Regional Service Manager" about it.

I think that it is a "defect in materials" and am quite unhappy that Subaru won't own up to that simple fact.   :!:

The way i got around it was to ALWAYS pull of quick :P Rev upto 3k, 4k, 5k and let her rip :P

Did it on my 03 for the first time saturday morning when cold  Buzz beware :!:
was not amused, but seeing as it didn't do it again I thought it must have been my fault ops:
Will monitor the situation and let you know if it happens again
If the clutch is replaced by Subaru with the same type of clutch does the problem not just start again
My Scoob has done very few miles so it is obviously not linked to plate wear :!:

I get the general impression that Subaru Dealers response to the problem is "they all do that Sir".
