2008 LECACY B4

Hello from Cyprus!!

Iam a recently a subaru legacy owner and Iam very about that.
My car was import from Japan and is a 2008 subaru legacy 20GT Spec-b 5 speed AT paddle shift.

The car was import with 1400km and the first thing to do was to change its engine oil.I used Castrol Edge 0-40w as my mechanic recommended.

Here in Cyprus we have 8 months summer 4 months winter time.Summer temperature rise from 30 to 42 degrees Celcius winter time 0-18 Celcius.
NOW is WINTER!!

My mechanic said that it was ok to use this oil viscosity all year around.
I have my concerns on that because I asked different places and most of the agree using 10-50W all year.

I realy need your opinion on that.Right oil for the car rise above all the rest!!

Thank You in advance!!

Hi mate,

Here in Japan we have a similar spread of temps in winter and up to 40 Degrees in summer and a 10W 40 is fine here. If you're not thrashing or tracking the car then would think it would do all year round.

Re: 2008 LECACY B4

Thanks mate!!

What about 0-40w Iam already using or 5-40w.Would that be a problem. The factory in Japan recommends either 10-50w ELF Les pleiades or Casrtol SLX 5-40w.Why are different recommendations for the engine oil?Is it because the drivelability of the car or weather conditions.

Thank again!!

Re: 2008 LECACY B4

You don't need a 0W 40 in your climate and you won't be doing your engine any favours by using it. Stick with what you're using. Your choice of oil should take into account BOTH climate and driving conditions. I would say if you're not thrashing your car a lot then a 10W 40 will be fine.

For professional oil advice, have read of this thread and ask Opie Oils a question regarding your car. Very Knowledgable chap who will recommend you a decent oil/viscosity.

Oil advice and recommendations here

As for your codes they should be on the left hand strut tower (you left or roght hand drive over there) on a plaque along with transmission code etc.
