Idle surgeing

Hi please could some one help please i have a 54 plate STI it has been parked up for the last 3 weeks every thing was fine before i parked it up i started it to day and took it for a 2 mile spin while i stopped at the lights the idleing started to bounce up and down between 1500 & 2000rpm then it settled at 1500rpm and the (CEL) is on constant not blinking ive done a bit of reading and have come to the concluesion that it could be the (idle control valve) but before i start taking any thing apart is there any way i could check the ecu for errors as my dealer want's 55+VAT to check.

or is there anyone in the carmarthen/swansea area that could check it for me.

if it is the "idle control valve" could anyone recomend what to clean it with.

Thanks

Re: Idle surgeing

had the same problem with mine (o4 sti) after a similar lay up, took it for a 30 mile run and it settled down a bit but tickover was still a bit high and the check engine light was still on.. disconnected the negative terminal for 30 mins, put ignition back on to the first click,no dash lights, then pressed the brake pedal for 30 seconds, till there was a click behind the dash.
put ignition on so the ignition lights are on and started the engine, problem gone.. only other thing it did was reset the trip meters and the rev counter light/audible warning.. cars been fine since.. hope it helps
