it could be just that the float stuck to end of tank thats why it showing up empty if its not that, 99.9% it the sender unit.............

Re: incorrect fuel gauge reading

Actually that sounds about right. I've never got more than 50 litres into my car and that is after running right on empty though before the light comes on. I'd imagine the light would come on when you still have several litres still in the tank, though1/4 of a tank sounds excessive.

Also it only costs me 5000 yen (25 quid) to fill my car up from when the gauge reads 1/4 of a tank (which is as low as i like to let it go) and thats almost exactly 30 litres, not 45 as youd expect.

Re: incorrect fuel gauge reading

They're 60 liters same as all classic Imprezas. If you run your car until the gauge says empty, chances are the orange warning light won't have come on yet (Mine came on after needle had passed the line. Was in middle of nowhere and no petrol stations) which means there are still several liters sloshing around in there. I'll try and find out exactly when the warnig light comes on.

Re: incorrect fuel gauge reading

its a 60litre tank and the light comes on when there is 9litres left in the tank...which gives u apporximately under 100kms. Trust me, im so cheap i keep running my car till its empty.

Re: incorrect fuel gauge reading

The fuel guages on Imprezas are really pessimistic in the second half of the tank (a good think really as it helps to stop you running out) - I once ran my first one untill the needle was below the "E" and it still had 2.5 litres of fuel in it!

Re: incorrect fuel gauge reading

yeah ive found that the second half of the tank always goes a lot quicker than the 1st half. I also occasianly run the car until the gauge goes below the Empty, bad i know but i havent ran out of fuel yet.

Re: incorrect fuel gauge reading

Ok, ran the car down past empty and until the light came on and filled up at ESSO immediately. Managed to squeeze 49.2 litres in and no more. As above poster says about 10 litres left in the tank so good for about 100 Km's careful driving. Usually fill it back up at the 1/4 tank mark, and shall now continue to do so.

Re: incorrect fuel gauge reading

true that.
results may differ with the quality of the fuel, driving habits, condition of the car, etc etc.
Dont trust ur guage, just get an average reading of your trip metre and reset it everytime u fill up, thats wat i do anyways.
