Faulty Brakes???

Hello,
Was just wondering if anyone may help me? I have an 05 sti and when i am giving the car a blast at high speed and slam the brakes on the car seems to have a bit of a squirm about it feels as if theres a bit unstability there i don't know if this is normal due to trying to scrub lots of speed quickly?? If i preform an emergency stop from lesser speeds the car is find!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any help would be appericated

Cheers

Re: Faulty Brakes???

had this problem with with my MY99. it was sticky caliper pistons. on hard braking at high speed i could feel the driver side front brake kick in and the car would start pulling to the right and barely a second later the near side would kick in and the car would then pull in the opposite direction (all this happened in a split second). sticky calipers can also cause the discs to over heat and warp. But this is common on a car of my age, not so sure about a MY05.

Re: Faulty Brakes???

It does feel like braking force is transferred from one side to the other and it sometimes seems to have a bit of a weave what did you do to fix it? cheers

Re: Faulty Brakes???

I swapped my calipers for reconditoned ones with a local brakes outfit. Try Welcome To Godspeed Motorsport you could speak to Ian who runs this business, tell him of your problem and maybe get some advice. If it's a caliper piston problem and you wanted to do the work yourself, i presume you must be able to get kits??
one way of finding out if it's an imbalance in the brakes is to have the brakes tested at an MOT station. i would have thought that even kwik fit would do this for nothing. I'm no expert i'm just going on what experience i had, hope this helps.

hi was any of your brake lines disconnected recently cause they could be air in the braking system. if you think they air in the system i would bleed the brakes had this problem with my v6 sti braking felt off- balancened and it was like the brakes were stopping uneven i bled the system and they was air in mine and the problem was gone when i bled them this might be your problem

Re: Faulty Brakes???

Not as far i am aware, saying that i had new shocks and a fuel tank repair so don't know if they would have to remove the brake lines for that, but i think both these options are possible might take it to a friends garage for a quick look..... When you had your problems was it all the time or only at high speeds? as around the 70+mark there is no problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Faulty Brakes???

my problem was at all sort of speeds braking to when you come to a complete stop braking felt out of balance. Id go with the bleeding of brakes first cause it the cheaper option if that dont work you can look at calipers then, up to you hope this helps..............
