Re: ecu question

version 5 is mappable, however a 97 car isn't, is it the full code of the ecu? or do you men the code comes back as a version5 ecu?

Re: ecu question

ah right, wondered if a mpper had scribbled it on when it was taken out of a car.

i'm guessing it sthe standard ecu, if it is then unfortunatly it isn't which leves you witha few options, depends how much money you want to spend?

Re: ecu question

depends waht route you go, you can piggy back the current ecu or you can replace the whole lot.

replacement is the option for greater improvment, but is alot more expensive 1k+ piggy back is prop nearer 700 ish

Re: ecu question

i think the pin connectors are different, however by the time you've put the newer ecu and had it mapped then it would be more expensive to do that, second hand ecu would be about 250-300, ecutek licence would be 200, mapping would be 300 ish, then possibly rolling road time 100 etc etc

cheapest option is the piggy back ecu, don't get me wrong, theres nothing wrong with it at all and will do a fine job.

reason i say full replacement has better results is because the basic mechanics of the board itself mean it has faster responce times, more features, different circetry archiecture (sp) making it have more potential improvement. but that improvment comes at a cost.

also should be noticed that the improvment from a piggy back to a full ecu on a car with basic upgrades (decat, pannel filter) wont be that high, its only when you start changing turbos, front mounts, injectors etc etc that it realy makes gains worth justifying the cost

Re: ecu question

decats tend to make them run rich rather than lean, sounds like the mix might be up the swanny.

tbh it does sound like it needs maping, if your gonna go the whole hog the miht be worth heading over here to get a ecu fitted and mapped. not aware of any places in ireland that can do it, although i may be wrong.

what i would say is take it easy till it is mapped
