changing impreza 1999 ECU

had E3 ECU tested on rolling road, told all inputs are within spec but the output is shot, he said these ECUs get scrambled and not the best unit. when its reset it runs perfect for around 100 miles then goes rough, showing no logged faults.

got another ECU that looks identical and fits the wiring but car will not start, does this ECU need to be matched to the car or is it just a fit and work, I.E plug and play,

told by local Subaru dealer it needed coding,
when I fitted it the fuel pump did not work,
thats when I found it needed to *talk* to the immobiliser.

so going to see how much this will cost to code it, if not have seen a VX Astra 1.9 cdti 54 reg that I have asked how much PX he will give on this *money pit*

found its cheaper to go by taxi than run this, heavy on fuel and any parts needs a remortgage. had it 1 year but very disappointed in this car.

Are all the outputs knackered on the ecu?

If so then it will be a burnt out earth track on the circuit board which can often be fixed by rubbing the board so the copper track is exposed and then applying a small sliver of solder across where its burnt out. If that fixes it then your laughing.

taken off the decat pipe and fitted the old original,

car runs perfect and now get no smell of petrol at the rear,

exhaust output has fallen from 0.9 to 0.2, where fail is over 0.3
