few questions from newbie

hi guys, ive just bought a 2002 impreza wrx, never had a subaru before so not well up on them just always wanted one, love the car to drive but 2 small{maybe} problems. 1st drove it a few hundred miles all seemed well, but at 6000 revs the engine light comes on then goes off the next time igo to start, doesent do it everytime i hit high revs but thats what seems to set it off, should i take it to subaru to get it checked?? other thing sitting on a motorway at 70/80 theres a slight drone like a diff or wheel bearing but it doesent do it below that speed which i find strange, is this common or could it be just road or tyre noise?? any help much appreciated, thanks in advance..spencer

yep get the check engine light checked out, the history will be stored so they just need to plug in a laptop to see what fault code its kicking out.

drone could be alot of different things, does it do it above that speed? and also every time?

yeah thanks mate, the engine light hasnt come on since but still gonna get it checked out, the drone noise im thinking is just the road/tyres etc as i only seem to hear it around 80 and not under or over that its done 70k but been serviced at the same subaru garage from new and just had the 70 service done. love the car tho just worried about how its goin to affect my license as it makes me wanna go fast, should be past this at 36 but hey ho never mind. cheers pal

also mate, ive mostly owned bmw/merc type cars before and i hear subaru are reliable as you like!! whats your opinion on this mines complete standard and im thinking of keeping it that way, then perhaps goin for a sti in a year or so?? also i hear that subaru dealers/parts can be steep?? whats your opinion on that?? i really dont know but my last cars have been bmw/merc/jag/jeep in that order so im sorta used to expensive running costs, would you say my impreza would be similar costs to these or worse?? cheers

20 - 22 mpg.

Motorway around 33 mpg.

Rough idea. Subaru main dealer service costs.

10k 173
20k 242
30k 543
60k 500

Subaru suggested maintenance schedules.

Im 34, i agree though i think im worse now than i were when i were younger-subarus do make ya feel like a kid again sometimes, especially on the odd occassion around town when theres old folk kicking about shaking their head as they walk past (usually due to noise/dumpvalve)"These young uns" lol.

Makes me grin when theres kids about with their dads an theyre like "dad dad scooby" top an bottom of it is everyone recognises what a scooby looks/sounds like and although theyre not expensive cars to buy still think theres a certain buzz from owning one-definately not for the person who wants to blend in Really hard to drive steady in though i agree.

Been a long day not been in long but what a difference.
Car had just 215bhp dispite having the exhaust and filter fitted now got 253bhp and all that horrible lag has gone sweet.
