Knocking noise

I have a subaru impreza wrx sti prodrive 2002, and it has recently started to make a knocking noise at the front of the car, this only seems to happen when i am free rolling, out of gear with the clutch down. It does not make the noise if i accelerate, or if theres no presure on the wheels (jacked up) and does not make the noise if its stationary.
The subaru garage has had it for 2 weeks now and has checked a number of things including the gear box but they are still no closer on finding out whats wrong with it.
Please help
Many thanks

My initial thought is that it could be the drive shaft.

is it more a case of you can't hear it when the engine is reving while your going along?

could it be suspension knock as it moves?

Usually knocking noises on most cars is down to worn bushes on the arb drop links.

When the car is under load or braking then there is more tension on the bushes so the noise disappears as such. However im not familiar with the newer age imprezas suspension so its only a guess at this point.

Other option that springs to mind is worn cv joints. How does the car sound during hard turning?

Hopefully it may help but i would have thought subaru would have checked all this when the car was in.

Any other info like how loud is the knocking and is it only when you go over uneven roads etc?
