New car break-in any tips?

I live in the states and will be purchasing a new 07, Impreza 2.5i, 5 speed very soon. (yea yea... i know it's not a turbo or anything)...

I'm really just wondering if there are any tips on breaking in the new car/engine for maximum life and power?

I'm curious because this is my first new car and want to get the most out of it.

Also... Suggestions on Oil, plugs, and other simple things would be much appreciated. I did do a few searches but came up empty handed.

Thanks!!!

Nice one Jon ...

The tips on break-in will be in the Impreza's owners manual.

Yep! 1,000 miles

Quote: from the manual.

Do not race the engine, And do not alow engine speed to exceed 4.000 rpm except in an emergency.
Do not drive at one constant engine or vehicle speed for a long time, eather fast or slow.
Avoid starting suddenly and rapid acceleration, except in an emergency.

So... in all honesty how am I supposed to get to work? It's almost all highway and I cruise at 60mph. Should keep the cruise control off and vary up and down all the time? I don't mind shifting all the time. In fact I love it

Anyone have an idea what the RPM's are at 60 mph in 4th and 5th gear?

On a side note... When is a decent time to switch to full synthetic oil? I've read that some people switch at like 500 miles.. others at 1000.. others at 3000.... Since there are so many variables whats a good middle road answer? I'm guessing maybe 1500? haha
