help please abs light on

hi guys
right over the last three days my abs light has started to come on now and again .
sometimes on all day other times its on for a bit then off .
checked brake fluid thats ok pads and disks are fine . so im thinking maybe a sensor ???? . went to local garage who said they cant do it as they dont have the kit to connect it to there computer to see if it is a sensor failure .
would anyone know if its a simple job to do yourself and know anyone who could check it or anywhere near me i could go besides subaru that is .
cheers

oh im in gloucestershire

really easy way is to pay a garage 40 and above for the diagnostics... preferred free way is to get yourself a ohm meter (resistance meter), either buy a cheap one or borrow one and measure the resisitance for each sensor... the connectors for the front ones are probably in the engine bay by the suspension tower, follow the cable from the sensor and you'll see the connector... unplug it and touch the 2 pins in the plug leading to the sensor... it should read about 1200-1400 ohms each and be quite similar both sides... the back sensor connectors are under the rear seat on mine and do the same... they read about 1000-1300 ohms... the sensor that is faulty will read out of this range or be very different from the other 3 or reads infinity which means the wire break is complete... if all 4 sensors are ok, the break could be further up or the somethings else is faulty then take to to get the diagnostics read... hope that helps... takes about 15 minutes to check
