Rear Suspension on STI UK

53 STI UK.

What a lovely car this is unfortunately it has been tarnished by problems with the rear suspension. It has done 80000 miles but the problem of clunking on the rear has started again. This will be the third time it has occured and on the two previous occasions the garage replaced the faulty parts. Now they want to charge for replacement. Can anyone tell me what the problem is as my garage is not specific but admit it is a common problem.

short version is its a fault with the shocks, so they shouldn't be charging you for them, personaly i'd kick up one hell of a fuss, its a known fault not wear and tear.

only real fix is to put different shocks on, some aftermarket ones do knock which is normal, but tbh a set of kyb's and eibach lowering sprngs will do you a treat

I had this problem on mine to,had it fixed,it is now back after about six months.
a quick fix for this is to lift up the gaiter on the shock and clean around the where it slides into the casing (you will probably see a build up of crap) then put some lithium grease around it,did mine yesterday and guess what clunking noise has now gone, but for how long i don't know, hope this helps.
