Wheel Size Change

my '99 wagon has standard 205/50 16 tyres and wheels and the subaru dealer has offered me 17 inch wheels with 215/45 17 tyres to buy... has just come off a '06 or '07 wrx (delivery miles) but i cannot remember which design... he says it should fit no problems but i would like to see if anyone has positive or negative experiences they want to share about the upgrade... what about the speedo?.. how inaccurate would it be... my standard one is about 10% fast as most read... also is the ride significantly affected?..

06 and 07 are both hawkeye, and afraid they wont fit, stud patern is different.

i would have though a dealer would know that

17`s are widely recognised as probably the best wheel for a classic as they still look quite big and dont add much weight and dont ruin the ride quality/handling like 18`s do(lower profile tyres),that said ive got 18`s on mine but love how it looks and dont mind sacrificing some handling for it.

Personally wouldnt buy wheels from a subaru dealer but then again i dont really like the std styles.

P.S.dont worry about the speedo i just drive about 4 or 5mph slower through cameras(just in case)could do with borrowing a road angel to see how far out it is tbh.

Were they offering you the wheels really cheap then???

actually like standard rims for my sins... either them or the oz smoked ones... was at dealers getting parts and asked for quote for tyres as i can get bridgestone or goodyears for about 80 each... dealer offered me brand new set of 17 inch rims and tyres for 400... dimples still on tyres so trying to make up my mind... will even throw in 4 wheel alignment

Not bad at that money to be fair, would shop round a bit though to be sure before you pick a std wheel.Only my opinion though an that aint a bad price if you really like the rims.

got the new wheels on today and i think they look good... always preferred the subtle look... the ride is still good... the bridgestone re 050a must be slightly softer than the re010... the before and after pics are now hosted on the site
