Help With Component Cleaning

This may be a long shot, but i want to try and take off bits of the engine and clean etc, what i can myself, but am unsure what i can take off without the car going to a mechanic.
So could anyone, if possible, provide a pic of a Impreza WRX 97' Import model, of the engine, and tell me briefly what i can clean myself.
Couple of things I'm curious about is that:

1) where are the spark plugs and
2) What is the smaller vent next to the air filter, if i have got that right, lol.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Scotty.

Spark plugs are located in both sides of the block (if you are stood at the front of the engine bay). Follow the coil pack leads down to the side of the block and you will feel the head of the coil pack......the plugs are below these.

If you are cleaning the engine bay then I would purely recommend covering all the electric components such as alarm and if you have one also cover the cone filter.
