Have a look at the air-filter and fuel filter they could be clogged.

The hiss sounds like your fuel pump firing up - could be the crank sensor. I would remove it and clean it.

How old is the battery? and have you checked all the electrical connections to the battery etc?

crank sensor is a very easy sensor to clean/change.

Its located at the front of the engine and is held in my a M10 or M12 bolt IIRC. Basically unplug it undo the bolt and take it out.

When I had similar problems with a WRX a few years back it turned out that the crank sensor was just covered in carbon deposits etc. I cleaned it with carb/brake cleaner - refitted it and it was fine from there onwards.

Sorry I should've said its located in between the pulleys at the front of the engine. A tan coloured head to the sensor with a single bolt holding it in place.
