Post Gearbox problem

Well, it had to happen, but I've went and broke my gearbox.

What I'm trying to find out, is whats the strongest box for a classic?

Think a later 6 speed box and PPG kits are out of my price range.

A mate of mine suggested an STI5 box with my diffs?

Cheers,

Micky

you called pete lol

as you say depends on how much you wanna spend.

for a 5 speed ppg gearbox expect not much change from 3500 (inc vat)

for a 6 speed ppg expect not much change from 5000 (inc vat)

later 6 speeds are roughly 1800 + fitting + different diffs (on my uk any way, not sure about sti's) + vat

rebuilt same box roughly 800 + vat

rebuilt box to same spec roughly 850 + vat

as said realy depends on budget, i went with a custom built 5 speed witha ppg straight cut gear set 1-4 and then a uk turbo helical 5th for quiet motorway cruising. Although its much much stronger than the standard box it does wine and if i used it for anything other than weekend/evening i would have gone for a 6 speed box.

video of the sound

6 speed box will hopwever fart around with your gear ratios, and some people like the change some people don't.

the answer realy depends on your budget.

Cheers mate,

How much

I've spoken to Alyn at AS today, and he ran through some options. Being the forgetful fecker that I am, I can only remember bit's and pieces of what he said.

PPG is definately out of my price range, as is the 6 speed unless I could get one cheap with the diffs.

I've mailed Alyn for a reminder, as to what he said today, but the ball's set in motion.

Fingers crossed, I'll be good to go for the Scooby shootout.

Micky.
