tickover problem

can anybody tell me what this problem is on my 99 turbo classic, when the car is warm and i come to a stop the tickover is erratic going from almost stalling to where it used to tickover at, up and down and sometimes stalling when slowing to stop.

i have had a mechanic look at it and they cleaned the idle valve(i think thats what its called) which helped for a bit but didnt solve it and it has got quite bad again, they said i needed a certain part which i have forgotten what its called but they said it would be around 200.

can anyone shed any light on this problem?
cheers

Give Alyn a ring tomorrow. Won't be listed on the site as it is more a service part.

i had this too on my my99 sti. i cleaned the pipes out that go from the (i think there solenoids) drivers side suspension turret to the turbo and manifold and it was sorted. make sure you mark them up or have a good memory.

This is wierd. My car has just started doing the same thing. I assumed it was a problem when it cam off choke as it is ok until the engine warms up.

Edit:
Just checked fault codes and i'm getting;
11 - Crank sensor
23 - Air Flow meter (MAF)
31 - Throttle position sensor

However, after a bit of research on this here site, i unplugged the MAF sensor, and the engine ran for a couple of seconds then stopped dead. This mean MAF's OK?
I'll also give all connectors a good clean and see if that helps any. If not it's off to Subaru i guess.

thanx for the replies
picked up a new maf yesterday from the local dealer, but the problem i have now is when i took the old one off and compared them i noticed a couple of differences between them-

on the old one there are 2 metal pins sticking out from the top just behind the rubber seal

also where the block connector plugs into the maf there is one less pin on the new one

can anyone tell me if this makes any difference or should i try to get the same one with the extra pins ?

i double checked with the dealer and they said it was the right part for my 99 classic turbo, the only differences are the pins i mentioned.

i will take the old one off tommorow and try and post some photos of both.
