Unhappy help me find out what is wrong Please!

I am new so I don't know quite where to post. Sorry if this is the wrong one....

I am new and trying to learn. I have a 1995 subaru impreza 4 door sedan.
I think it is a 2.2., not a 1.8
She was running GREAT since I got her three months ago. Even with the engine light on for that long. Took her in and they said don't know why engine light is on??? Dummies!
Yesterday, took my son to work with no problems. No noises, no problems of any kind.
Went home, go to start her up in less than an hour, and she won't start!
Battery is new. Yes she has plenty of fuel.
All dash lights work, headlights etc.,... fan even comes on under the hood.
But starter will not turn. Not even click like one does when it goes out. Nothing happens upon turning the key!
I have been told anything from crank sensor to relay starter switch whatever that is.
Can it be the starter with no prior trouble or clicking?
Could it be bad battery cables? They look ok but are pretty old. We cleaned them well when we replaced the battery.
Just totally dead.... No noise what so ever...except the fan running.
Please help. Hubby just got a job. We can't afford to be without my car.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

WE FOUND THE PROBLEM! She runs like a top once again!
Apparently "Myrtle" has a slow tranny leak. It was fluid blow back onto the connector of the starter! YAH!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the information. I am going to keep it for later. Looks like those codes will come in handy. hopefully not too soon.
For a 200 dollar car, she rocks! So easy to get to that stater too!
Horray!
