the scoob will be alot lighter than the st200, i'd take a rough guess of about 230bhp ish approx 15bhp above standard.

Along these lines, are the Jap scoobs more powerful standard? The specs in the catalogue from 1996 are claiming 240 bhp and torque around 231. Does that sound right?

It's all a bit confusing and i can't seem to find reliable figures.

WRX Sti Type RA is the way forward mate.........import if you can afford the insurance. Brutal motor! Quoted power for an MY96 of that spec is around 275bhp and thats standard! Plus RA is lightened a fair bit.

It sure is a great motor, but the one at the place i bought my scoob (they have a good few 96-99 WRX's, was considering an STi until my conscience, the wife, got the better of me) was almost 3 times the price of mine. In my dreams.

As i'm in Tokyo no need to import, and insurance is only gonna be 400 quid on my WRX Wagon. Very nice!

jap fuel mate uk fuel is like water in comparison so you'll get higher performance figures over there, eg forrester sti is 330bhp on jap fuel but 300 once mapped for uk fuel

Well, not as pricey as the UK to be fair, but 20% over unleaded. About 60p a litre. Unleaded is about 50p.
