Idling problem

hi all i am new to the site but havent been on much, but anyway could someone lead me to what could be the problem.
i took the inlet manifold off to do some cleaning up in the manifold (removing lumps of cast)and put the lot back on the car, after a week or so the idling has gone up and down from 600-1100.the car idlies perfectly during the warming up process but when the temperature reaches normal the revs go up and down could someone tell me or advise me what my problem is.
my car is a uk97/98 red wagon, the car has got sidc members tax disc in it.a fella called paul lange was the previous owner before the bloke i bought it from. I t has got very low milage 29,000 miles,so i didnt think it could be a worn out car!
did anyone know the car or fella who used to own it apparently he had it a while.

Hi
If you have disconnected the battery you might have reset the ECU.
This can cause the idle speed 2 vary

Hope you get sorted soon Kev
