Wink transmission light

my transmission light keeps coming on
on my 2002 wrx
my local dealer put the computer on and it told him it was the battery so i now have a new battery and its still happening
only noticed it in forth gear when accelerating 50 -70 mph i slow down and take it easy and off it goes
does not appear to be the clutch as no slippage in fifth at low speed
any ideas ?????
going to the dealers on Wednesday but it would be nice to have some clues
and if it expensive i am sorry but its getting part ex'd

That could be the Malfunction indicator lamp, on-board diagnostics System called OBD (check Engine Light).
The OBD system helps by ensuring that emissions are at acceptable levels & assists diagnosing any malfunction.

think pete's correct, you've mistaken the 'CEL' for something else...............
never come across a low battery to bring the light on, get them to check the "historic" codes as well as any current faults, the ECU on your age of car uis quite clever in that as soon as it realises that the 'fault' has been fixed (or your driving in areas that don't have the issue) then the light will re-set until next time....................

well got my impreza in to the dealer today
and
a faulty oil sensor(or something) causing the problem and the charge nil
as it should have been checked when it was in originally and they washed the car
so a good end to my story i hope
just got to insure it now
