MY99 Cam tensioner advice please....

MY99 wagon sometimes has an audible tapping when it is started from cold, the noise totally goes when warm.

My Impreza specialist thinks the problem may be the Cab belt tensioner, and has suggested I keep an eye on it , and assuming the noise gets no worse, deal with it at the next belt change.

Does this sound ok.........and has anyone had the same problems?

Thanks

Lots of scoobs were going in to subaru with piston slap.. Getting there pistons replaced under warentee. It was not really a problem just a bit tappy when cold.
More likley to be tappets they can get very tappy when cold. When you do your next oil change bang in some engine cleaner refill with good oil and see how that goes.

Cheers guys!

This is my first Subaru, and I can understand why they are so popular, the car is just great!

But reading the problems people seem to get, on forums such as this, makes me feel paranoid! They do seem to have a few problems.

Mine is a bog standard 1999 UK Wagon, so ### knows what the much modified Imprezas go like!

to be honest m8 the subaru impreza is one of the most reliable cars on the road......the problems you see on these sites(the serious ones) are generally from highly modded cars (most of the time)

dont be paranoid it shouldnt break down if you look after it
