Steering full lock

Pulled out of the drive today, on full lock to the left...
A noticable kind of knocking sound, does this relate to wheel bearings?!

Will try it again tomorrow :shock:

I suspect the CV joint on the drive shaft is on the way out. If everything else is tight and servicable the first warning of these going is felt on sharp moving turns.

I think this happens because the tyre temp is low and they cannot get a grip on the road. Try to do this when the tyres are warm and you'll find it does not happen. This always seem s to happen to me when temperatures drop

Full lock knocking usually signifies worn/knackered CV boots

best to take the car for a drive (get it up to temp) and then try driving forward and backwards slowly on full lock.

Hope you get it sorted Ash

CV = Constant Velocity joint

On the end of the drive shaft, allows the drive from the shaft to turn with the wheel (slightly more advanced version of the universal joint)

Sometime these can be replaced as just the joint - sometimes need to change the shaft. Neither really hard job to do but may be expensive (ish) so it would benefit an expert look before you go ordering some
