Car started popping all of a sudden

Hi all.

Looking for a bit of advice on my sti 2005...

A couple of months ago for no apparent reason I started to get fairly loud pops and bangs out of my exhaust on overrun.
A few weeks later the car developed some juddering/hesitation at low revs.
As a result, to fix this the first thing I did was change the fuel filter which seem to have cured the juddering problem.
However I was still left with the exhaust popping. So I ordered a new denso front O2 sensor and replaced it (I did have the fault code for the sensor a while ago but I switched the cel off and it never came back)
Anyway the new front O2 sensor still hasn't fixed the problem.

Also I don't know if it's the placebo effect but the car seems to be boosting slower than usual and at times I'm not getting as much boost. (Maybe the warmer weather?)

The sparks plugs have less than 7000 miles on them and the car is a standard sti PPP except a panel filter, afterburner vortex backbox and a dynamix remap a few years ago.

Any ideas would be very appreciated.

Re: Car started popping all of a sudden

is the exhaust all ok, up pipe etc all ok?
a simple air leak in the exhaust can cause a popping, if all is ok then it may be worth logging the afr`s to see if its running rich at some point,
Are you changing the 02 as its known to be faulty or to try and sort the popping ?

Re: Car started popping all of a sudden

Thanks for the reply.

Checking the exhaust for leaks was my next step that I will
Carry out this weekend.
I changed the O2 sensor as I had an error code flag up a few time about a year ago. But then after switching it of 2 or 3 times it never came on again.
I just thought I would change it to rule it out, but as I say it's hasn't really made any difference.

Hopefully I find some kind of leak on the exhaust...
Thinking about it about a month ago I did hit the underside rather hard on a speed hump. And I believe the downpipe where it joins the centre section is the lowest point so I may have knocked a joint.
The problems only really started since then from what I can remember.

Re: Car started popping all of a sudden

How are your cat converters holding up? If they die then it might cause your Exhaust to clog up which would obviously be bad news.
