Suspension needed

Hi, I am looking for STi Prodrive bilstein strut/shock - O/s/r (drivers side) for my WRX Sti Ver 4 1997 ? All the shocks/struts I find are 26 inches in length from the mounts to the bottom of the strut however, mine are 24 inches? Any help would be appreciated, many thanks

Re: Suspension needed

how new are these shocks ?
the reason I ask is if they are old then id be tempted to change both and then the length shouldnt be a issue anyway.

Re: Suspension needed

HI thanks for quick response. They are old (originals) factory upgrades. Silver in colour shock - with Bilstein Pro drive Sti sticker on them.

I managed to find some off an Sti Ver 3 but they would not fit, they were 26" and mine were clearly 2" shorter (they were also red in colour-shock). This is the first time I have had to look at the suspension so new territory for me. Why would the length not make a difference? I did try and squeeze the ones I got on, but noooooooo way were they going to fit? Am I doing something wrong ? Should I be adjusting anything with the shock?

Re: Suspension needed

the spring controls the height, the piston/rod length doesnt, the only downside to the longer piston/rod is if you have shorter/lowering springs, the spring can be fully uncompressed before the piston/rod stops so the springs can rattle, this only happens when a car is full jacked up,
is there a part number stamped on the old ones ?

Re: Suspension needed

Unfortunately no, no part number. They were silver in colour when new (strut), with a silver reflective sticker saying Bilstein Pro-drive Sti on them. That is all I have to go on, other than, they measure 24" from top to bottom?

Re: Suspension needed

there is no reason that the shocks you have shouldnt fit,
from 1994 to 2000 they will swap across,
note the code for lowered VA or HA.

Re: Suspension needed

Alas ! Resolved problem. I got in contact with Bilstein Uk and they said they can rebuild unit for 80 quid plus the dreaded. They know the shock and confirmed that it is a common problem for them to knock after about 50-60k miles. Oh and I found out the shocks that I was sent were from a P1 ?????? I'm guessing 2001? May be that is why they were longer? Anyway, thanks for your help really appreciate it.
Fyi I'm going to be selling it as soon as I've fitted part so if you know of anyone who's looking for an 97/8 Wrx Sti 4 good condition for year 330bhp Jdm red top unabused - newish clutch, turbo, belts etc looking for 4k ono
