Impreza help. Car won't start

Hi guys, I'm new to imprezas after owning a whole load of other cars but I've always loved the scoob, my mates decided to sell his turbo 2000 R reg impreza and I'm showing alot of interest. The only thing that's stopping me is the fact it won't start. The car has been off the road for roughy 2 years after it developed maf sensor problem. As it stands now it won't start but a new battery on it but the alarm keeps going off and won't turn off and as I think it's got an imobiliser on it that's preventing the car starting. It was all working fine before it was taken off road. Does anyone know what it may be?

have you changed the alarm fob batteries?

Well the led on the fob flashes so I guess the battery is fine. Radio masts? Would they effect the alarm? As far as I know it's the factory alarm the fob is flat flat and has two brown buttons in the face of it (poor description)

No the fuel pump doesn't prime when turning the key the ignition lights come on the nothing when turned further the problem is the alarm can't be disarmed could this cause the car to not start? We've disconnected the sounder but the indicators still flash

No the cars not cranking over just ignition alarm fob won't work for some reason would this have something to do with the battery being flat for so long?

did you look in to the radio masts as the pilot suggested,

i have had the same problem 3 times in the same place where i go to eat some times the car just wouldn’t start no cranking just ignition and my fob wouldn't work in that particular place i had to open the car with the key but wasn’t good enough as the immobiliser was still on. Every time ended up towing it around the corner and the fob worked fine.

I thought the place was cursed lol. Till the 3rd time one of the lads mentioned the radio masts. I got the override pin for mine so it’s all good now.

However if you car was starting there before where it is at the moment this might not be the problem.

You can get an emergency override pin from the dealers to bypass the immobiliser but make sure you put the code in slowly in the key pad of your Subaru otherwise if you get it incorrect on the third tempt it will lock up for security reasons.

here is a link to help this chap had the same problem.

Re: Impreza help. Car won't start

Thank you very much for your reply. As I'm not with the car it's hard to check but did all classic impreza's made in the uk come with a keypad inside the glove box or is it an aftermarket install?

Do you have a picture of said box? I've looked in mine there's a little cubby hole that pulls down to reveal a fuse box and next to that a plug so key I presume is for computer to plug in
