knock sensor

Hello im new to all this. i have only had my 98 impreza about 2 months now and the knock sensor has gone and i just wanted to know how much i will be looking to pay for a new one. also will i be losing any performance from it. thanks for any help :wink:

You will not lose performance. But if you do get any knock then the ignition will not retard and could cause an engine failier.

oh great its been like it for about 5 weeks. the car stutters does that sounds bad. thanks for you quick reply

Hi scoob, welcome to the site, as bob says and best get it replaced before anything happens, Your car will still be drivable just dont give it any welly until you replace it :wink:

This is not the knock cencer. discribe Stutters?

well the engine light keeps coming on then going out again so i had it put on the dyno and it came up saying knock. when i say stutter i mean when im driving along an sitting at say 30 the car will just hold back then it'll be alright then it'll do it again but if i boot it it'll be fine and you wouln't know anything was wrong

If the ECU says Knock then this is a thing you should replace before giving the car to much full throttle. The surging is something else. Could be a number of differant things. Sounds like you are running rich then weak when holding throttle. Lambda sencer or maybe maf. worth getting it checked out though.

did you get your knock sensor fitted? i got mine from foresters 53, fitted myself, worked lovely jubbley

no i still have not got round to getting one yet. where did you get your's from. was it hard to fit and how long did it take you. another Q, i just bought an earth kit sunday from trax and want to know if any one else has fitted it and where the best place's to fit them earth cables thanks
