Power steering is a right pain Please Help

Power steering is a right pain...

Driving to work this morning and my power steering has gone. Can hardly turn the wheel. I have checked the fluid and this is ok. The belt looks fine doesnt apear to be slipping. No nasty grating noises. Im puzzled

Can any shed any light please as Ive got to drive it 30 miles to get home later..

Open the bonnet and turn the wheel whilst stationary and check that the pump is actually doing something. If it doesnt sound like its 'pumping' then that could be your problem.

Yep with Turbo on this one - as it sounds like your PS Pump has had it

Just tried it on me lunch break and it seemed ok. Went for a spin and it started to stop working every now and then. Then after about 10 mins its gone all togeather again. It felt like the belt was slipping but Ive double checked and it is tight.

it does sound to me like your pump has had it if the belt isnt slipping. When it stops working, get out and check to see. Either something internal has gone or the bearing is jamming.

Make sure its not the bearing jamming, cause you'll throw the drive belt eventually and with 30 miles to drive home, you'll be in the sh1t..

Ok mate ill check its still spinning before I go. Ill have to get it up to Foresters in the morning. More time off work. Power steering is becoming a right pain. Its been off the road for about a week already getting the leaks sorted now thats done is knackered all together. May aswell have got a new pump in the first place.. Out of the 4 weeks Ive had it its been in the garage for 2 1/2 weeks. Hope I dont get anymore grief after this is sorted.

If the system has had leaks, then it wouldnt surprise me that the pumps gone.

Once the leaks have been repaired, the pump will be back up to full pressure, and depending on its condition it may just tip it over the edge.

Good luck, hope you get it sorted
