my plastic expansion tank popped the lid yesterday.

just seems wierd, was idleing it gave it a hard rev and the lid came off. its an early type, im going to convert it to the later bolted type to try and sort this.

just wondering if its a common problem on the early ones or what could cause it??

cheers.

Re: my plastic expansion tank popped the lid yesterday.

when we bought it we nearly cooked it got it home sourced it to an air lock, car running lovely. not droping water or mixing it. took it around the block after a day polishing it parked it up gave it a hard rev to check the dump valve was working.

as it came down the rev range exhaust sounded like anti lag pop then the lid blew. thought i blew the turbo but was the lid popping off.

is the water clean or rusty brown ? have you got enough coolant in there ?

It could have built pressure due to rusty metal elements if the water is carrying corrosion the temperature build up quick giving the fans a hard time and you will build a little pressure if you dont have enough coolant to make the water thick water intend to turn in to steam with out coolant and starts picking up all the rusty element when circulating causing the heater matrix to block.

I would defo change the water put some new coolant and keep the coolant bottle topped up to level. if your fans are kicking in early clean the coolant sensor or replace it.

The cars probably been standing previously then driven they dont just start over heating for no reason. or get a blockage unless you change some.

good luck. ;)

FROM WORKS THE REAL DEAL.
